Top 10 FSW Athletics Moments of 2020-2021: #6 Bucs Softball Completes Furious Comeback at Nationals

FORT MYERS, Fla.- We continue our countdown of the Top 10 FSW Athletics Moments of the 2020-2021 year today with our #6 moment; Bucs Softball completing a furious comeback at Nationals against Seminole State.

Things didn't look good for the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers in their second round game of the 2021 NJCAA National Tournament as they trailed Seminole State 11-4 after 3 ½ innings of play.  They woke up in the bottom of the 4th though, bringing us our #6 moment on our countdown, their late game comeback against the Trojans.

The Bucs comeback started with a bases loaded, two run single from Taylor Jensen to get them back in the game at 11-6 and an RBI double from Feline Poot drew them to within four at 11-7. They continued the merry go round with a two run single from Owen Bowers and just like that they were back to within two at 11-9 at inning's end.  The teams traded home runs in the 6th as Seminole cracked a two run shot and Jensen went the other way for a solo job to make it 13-10 Trojans after six complete.  Emily Perrin came out of the Bucs bullpen in the 7th and kept it right there and that's when the fun started.  Natavia Ellis smashed the first pitch of the bottom of the 7th out to left to make it a two run game at 13-11.  Later in the inning Jensen continued her big game with an RBI single to close it to a one run game.  With the tying run 60 feet away and the winning run at second with one out, a groundout on the infield gave the Bucs just one more chance to come away with the win. The drama set up like a movie, bases loaded, two outs, bottom of the 7th, one run game, Owen Bowers at the plate for the Bucs.  After falling behind in the count, Bowers waited on an 0-2 changeup and lined it up the middle, driving two runs home and the Bucs dugout set off the Richter Scale with their celebration as they came from seven down to win it 14-13.

The comeback was a defining moment for the Bucs as they used the momentum to win their next three games, ultimately culminating in winning the program's first NJCAA National Championship.
