FORT MYERS, Fla.- It was a short, but sweet stay in Fort Myers for Florida SouthWestern sophomore Giulia Bonifacio as after transferring to FSW from Division I Binghamton and winning an NJCAA National Championship with the Bucs this season, the Italian right side will be headed back to the D1 level for the 2024 season after signing with Louisiana Tech University on National Signing Day at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
Bonifacio helped the Bucs to a trio of championships this season as FSW captured the Citrus Conference, FCSAA State, and NJCAA National Championships during her sophomore campaign. Bonifacio played in 13 games for FSW, averaging 1.86 kills per set while hitting .307 which was best of the Bucs pin hitters. She burst onto the scene for the Bucs, recording 8 kills and hitting .636 in her FSW debut against Florida State College at Jacksonville and recorded 10 kills and 4 blocks in thrilling five set win for the Bucs over #14 Polk State. She played in three of four games at the National Tournament, notching 3 kills on 4 swings in the Bucs semifinal sweep over #7 Trinity Valley.
She will look to bring her winning ways to the Bulldogs after Louisiana Tech managed just an 8-21 record in 2023. Bonifacio's new Head Coach Amber McCray is no stranger to junior college Volleyball after leading Panola College in Texas to back to back Top 10 finishes at the NJCAA National Tournament before taking over for the Bulldogs.
With Bonifacio signing, the entire 2024 FSW sophomore class has now inked with NCAA Division I programs including , Roberta Purashaj (Oregon), Alondra Alarcon (UNLV), Izzy Collier (Marshall), Anica Bobic (San Francisco), Victoria Zibecchi (Southern Utah), and Madu Fontes (Idaho).
