CHARLOTTE, N.C.- A rough Saturday at the ballpark cost the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers in the NJCAA National Rankings on Monday as the Bucs slid eight spots to #13 in the week five poll.
Things started good if not great for the Bucs last week as they hammered Citrus Conference rival State College of Florida 11-1 on Tuesday before winning a wild 15-9 decision over Eastern Florida on Thursday. Saturday the Bucs were one strike away from a series victory in game one of their doubleheader against the Titans before a walk, a hit, and a three run home run sank them 11-8. Lightning struck twice against the Bucs in game two as another late rally by Eastern did FSW in as the Titans took the series with a 5-2 win. Despite the Saturday struggles, FSW is still one of just 10 teams Nationally with 25 wins as they sit at 25-9 on the year.
Cowley was the beneficiary of the Bucs snafu as the Tigers moved into the top five behind Weatherford, LSU Eunice, Northwest Florida, and Blinn who all held their spots atop the rankings. Other Florida squads in the poll included Indian River at #7, Gulf Coast at #10, and Central Florida at #11.
The Bucs are back in action on Thursday and Friday at home at Buccaneers Park as they host Daytona State at 3 PM Thursday and again at noon on Friday for a doubleheader in Citrus Conference action.
