FORT MYERS, Fla.- After starting 42 games behind the plate for the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers this season, catcher Anthony Westbrook is headed to the Bluegrass State where he will suit up for the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky University next season.
Westbrook was a mainstay in the middle of the Bucs order this season, hitting .313 and slugging .524 with 10 doubles, 7 home runs, and 30 RBIs. He put together 14 multi-hit games this season including a 4-4 game against Polk State and back to back three hit efforts against Southern Conference rival Miami Dade. It wasn't just all offense for Westbrook though as he shined behind the plate for the Bucs, fielding .981 on the season while gunning down 16 would be base stealers to lead the state of Florida in that category.
He will join a Western Kentucky squad coming off of a 33-26 campaign and a 16-14 mark in Conference USA action. The Hilltoppers program is full of junior college flair as eight players off of their 2023 roster came straight from the junior college level while all four coaches on staff including Head Coach Marc Rardin and Assistant Coach Rob Fournier have extensive junior college coaching experience.
Westbrook is the ninth FSW sophomore to sign at the Division I level this season and the 11th overall to sign to move onto the four year level, joining AJ Shaver (Troy), Derek Williams (Wichita State), Tyler Kennedy (Texas State), Henry Hardie (High Point), Albert Serrano (Wagner), Marty Gair & Lucas Hartman (Florida Gulf Coast), Colin Brodeur (Bryant), Kelan Hoover (Wingate), and Yariel Diaz (Middle Georgia State).
