Regalado Signs With Royals

FORT MYERS, Fla.- A fourth Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneer will be headed to the professional ranks this season as sophomore flamethrower Nicholas Regalado has signed a free agent deal to join the Kansas City Royals organization.

Regalado threw in 15 games for the Bucs in 2022 after pitching his freshman season at the University of Miami.  He was 2-0 with a save for FSW, posting a 3.86 ERA in 37 1/3 innings pitched, striking out 48 opposing batters for a rate 11.57 per nine innings pitched. His best stretch of the season came in the middle of Suncoast Conference play when he worked back to back scoreless outings in wins over St. Petersburg and Hillsborough, logging 7 2/3 innings and striking out 12 without walking a batter.  Regalado took his talents to the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer and threw well alongside four other FSW teammates for the Chatham A's, striking out 28 and holding opponents to a .195 batting average over 23 2/3 innings pitched.

Regalado is the fourth player off of the 2022 Suncoast Conference Champion Buccaneers roster to ink a deal with a Major League Baseball club this season, joining Magnus Ellerts (Cleveland), Jose Izarra (Los Angeles), and Satchell Norman (Milwaukee).  In the past two seasons, the Bucs have had nine players sign MLB deals directly from FSW and another three former players ink with big league clubs after transferring to Division I programs.
