Tomaini Signs to Join Flyers in 2023

FORT MYERS, Fla.- After helping the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers to their third consecutive Suncoast Conference Championship this season, sophomore Paxton Tomaini has signed his National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Dayton next season.

Tomaini was a 2nd Team All-Conference selection for the Bucs this season, hitting .322 with 15 doubles and 5 home runs while driving in 44 runs and stealing 18 bases on the year. He played in 53 games for the Bucs this season, spending time at all three outfield positions and at both second and third base on the infield.  His hits came in bunches as he put together 22 multi-hit games as a sophomore and had 12 games with multiple RBIs.

With two A-10 Conference series left this season, Dayton sits at 20-24 overall and 7-11 in conference play.  The Bucs had a pair of Flyer connections on their 2022 roster as reliever Ben Petschke played for Dayton a season ago and current Assistant Coach Chris  Cabrera finished his playing career with the Flyers in 2021.

Tomaini is the 9th Division I signee and 12th four year signee overall for the Bucs this season, joining Magnus Ellerts (Florida), Ben Peterson (North Carolina), Jose Izarra (Dallas Baptist), Grant Besser (Rutgers), Riley Skeen (South Florida), Matthew Corpas (Florida International), Nicholas Regalado (FGCU), Ronny Medina (Radford), Frank Elissalt & Ronaldo Fernandez (Nova Southeastern), and Kalvin Alexander (Georgia Southwestern).
