FORT MYERS, Fla.- Following an outstanding season for the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers, sophomore slugger Christian Lucio has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Marshall University next year.
Lucio put together the best offensive season in FSW history in 2021, setting new single season program records for home runs (12), RBIs (48), triples (7), and runs scored (54), while hitting .330 in the middle of the Bucs order. For his efforts, he was named a First Team All-Region VIII and First Team All-Suncoast Conference performer during his only season in Fort Myers. Lucio played in 57 games for the Suncoast Conference Champs this season, registering 16 multi-hit games including eight three hit games and a four hit game midseason against South Florida State. He had 11 multi-RBI contests and drove in four runs four different times.
He will join a Marshall squad looking for a bounce back year after a 10-35 campaign and 6-26 mark in Conference USA action. Lucio's bat will be a welcomed addition to the Thundering Herd who hit just .238 as a team a season ago and managed just over four runs per game.
Lucio is the seventh Buc to sign at the Division I level and 16th Buc overall to sign at the next level this season, joining Carlos Rodriguez (Brewers), Alex Ayala (Rays), Abimelec Ortiz (Rangers), Antonio Knowles (Florida/Dodgers), Luis Tuero (Arizona), Carter Cunningham (East Carolina), Marc Davis (South Florida/Nationals), Warnner Rincones (Louisiana-Lafayette), Robert Wegielnik (Florida Atlantic), Daniel Vos (Erskine), Daniel Maldonado (Cumberlands), Matt Whitney (McPherson), Brendan Koester (IU-Southeast), and Jared and Jordon Campbell (Point Park).
