Bucs Baseball Summer Leagues Update #1

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Spread out across six different leagues around the country, 12 Florida SouthWestern State baseball players are sharpening their skills this summer.  We will check in on the Buccaneers playing summer ball throughout their seasons with today being our first look. 

Connor Bagnieski- St. Clair Green Giants- Great Lakes League

  • Bagnieski is playing North of the border this summer and has been on a tear to begin the year for St. Clair.  Through the first two weeks of action, he leads the club with a .462 average and has already swiped eight bags in his first seven games played. 

Ty Burton- Bradenton Juice- Florida Gulf Coast League

  • Burton and FSW teammate Danny Galvan have helped the Juice to a first place start in the FGCL after two weeks of competition.  Burton has posted a 4.97 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings on the mound thus far for the Juice. 

Marc Davis- Keene Swamp Bats- New England Collegiate Baseball League

  • While he awaits his decision whether to sign with the Chicago Cubs, or return to FSW, Davis is one of three Bucs playing in New Hampshire this summer.  He has been a strikeout machine so far, punching out nine in just five innings of work for the Swamp Bats. 

EJ Doskow- Saugerties Stallions- Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League

  • A Stetson transfer, Doskow has played in 13 of 18 games for the Stallions this summer.  He is still looking to get the bat going, hitting just .125 in 40 at bats.  He has found other ways to get on base however, walking a team high 10 times so far. 

Danny Galvan- Bradenton Juice- Florida Gulf Coast League

  • Galvan has been a strikeout machine for the Juice so far, punching out 23 in just 13 innings of work.  He does not have a decision yet on the mound and has worked a 4.83 ERA for league leading Bradenton.

Tommy Joseph- Keene Swamp Bats- New England Collegiate Baseball League

  • Joseph started off the summer a little bit slow, but has picked things up of late, including a three hit game on Friday in which he also scored three runs for the Swamp Bats.  He is hitting .222 with a homer and four RBIs through eight games.

Antonio Knowles- Keene Swamp Bats- New England Collegiate Baseball League

  • Knowles, who will be joining the Bucs in the fall after a season at Stetson, is unscored upon in two relief appearances thus far for the Swamp Bats. 

Nate Madej- Wisconsin Woodchucks- Northwoods League

  • Working as a starter rather than his relief role that he filled for the Bucs this year, Madej is 2-1 with a 4.87 ERA through five starts for the Woodchucks.  Regardless of the role, he has continued to pile up the strikeouts, fanning 29 through 24 innings pitched so far.

Bailey Mantilla- Woodstock River Bandits- Valley League

  •  Mantilla will come to FSW from Miami where he pitched this season.  He is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA through two starts for the River Bandits.  He has struck out seven and walked just two in eight innings worked so far. 

Warnner Rincones- Woodstock River Bandits- Valley League

  • The Bucs second leading hitter this season, Rincones is off to a slow start for the River Bandits, managing just one hit through his first 10 at bats.

Tyler Spitzbarth- Syracuse Salt Cats- New York Collegiate League

  • Spitzbarth is in Upstate New York for the summer playing for the Syracuse Salt Cats in the NYCBL.  He has pitched in five games for the Cats, posting a 3.00 ERA in seven innings worked and has struck out eight opposing hitters.

Robert Wegielnik- Wisconsin Woodchucks- Northwoods League

  • Like Madej, Wegielnik has also traded in his relief role for that of a starting spot on the mound this summer for the 'Chucks.  He has four starts, going 2-1 with a 3.78 ERA through 19 innings worked, earning his wins in a pair of scoreless starts against Green Bay and Lakeshore.
