Gusto Named FSW's First Baseball All-American

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- For the first time in program history, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers have an NJCAA All-American as Tuesday, ace Ryan Gusto was named a Second Team All-American by the association after a season in which he was named both the Suncoast Conference and FCSAA Pitcher of the Year.

Gusto, who was an 11th round draft pick of the Houston Astros last week, went 7-2 with a 2.88 ERA for FSW this season.  He led the FCSAA in strikeouts with 110 in his 75 innings worked and finished the season averaging 13.20 strikeouts per nine innings which was third most of any pitcher in the country that threw at least 75 innings this season, joining Washington Nationals first round pick Jackson Rutledge of San Jacinto and New York Yankees 22nd round selection Garrit Van Zijil of Alvin.

Gusto still has a decision to make before July 12th of whether he will sign with the Astros and begin his professional career or if he will spurn the 2017 champs to continue his collegiate career at Western Kentucky next season.

FSW had an unprecedented run of success this season, finishing with a 154-24 overall record between their four sports.  With Gusto's All-American nod, the Bucs now have an All-American in all four sports in the same year for the first time in school history. Including Gusto's selection, FSW finishes 2018-19 with seven NJCAA All-American's.
