FSW's Davis Picked by Chicago Cubs in MLB Draft

FORT MYERS, FLA.- For the first time in program history, Florida SouthWestern State has two Major League Baseball draft picks in the same year as in the 38th round on Wednesday, Buc freshman Marc Davis was selected by the Chicago Cubs, following up Ryan Gusto's selection in the 11th round by the Houston Astros.

Davis was electric out of the Bucs' pen as a freshman, punching out 41 in 24 1/3 innings of work.  His 15.19 strikeouts per nine innings this season ranked fourth in the NJCAA, two spots ahead of Washington Nationals' first rounder Jackson Rutledge of San Jacinto.  He finished the season 1-1 with a save in a team best 21 appearances, posting a 2.96 ERA and an even more impressive .192 opponents batting average against him.

The Cubs will now have one month to try to sway Davis away from FSW where he is set to return as a sophomore this fall.

Davis becomes FSW's fourth draft pick all-time, joining the aforementioned Gusto who went in the 11th round to the Astros earlier today, as well as Willie Rios who was the Baltimore Orioles 16th round pick in 2016 and Brandon Presley who was the Milwaukee Brewers 22nd round pick in 2017.
