FSW Closes Season Ranked #18

FSW Closes Season Ranked #18

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After not garnering a single national ranking in their first three years of existence, the Florida SouthWestern State Baseball team made up for lost time this season, closing 2019 ranked #18, wrapping up an 11 week stretch of being ranked in every poll of the 2019 regular season.

The Buccaneers wrapped up their season 40-14, winning their first Suncoast Conference Championship and making an appearance at their first FCSAA State Tournament.  At season's end, Coach Ben Bizier was named the Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year, Ryan Gusto was both the Suncoast and the FCSAA State Pitcher of the Year, and Shamir Morales netted Suncoast Defensive Player of the Year honors.

There was little movement at the top of the rankings where Wabash Valley stayed #1 with their 55-1 record on the year and was followed by Gordon State, Walters State, Northwest Florida State, and Southern Nevada to round out the top five.  There was significant movement on the bottom half of the rankings as the committee seemed to put extra importance on early postseason results.  Iowa Western and Crowder crawled up four spots into the top 10 while New Mexico rose up six spots, from #20 to #14 and Chipola went from unranked to #16 as they play for a State Championship Wednesday. John A. Logan and FSW both tumbled seven spots to #17 and #18 after failing to win their respective Region Tournaments.
