Myers Named FCSAA Pitcher of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.- Riding a hot streak down the stretch of the 2019 regular season, Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Mitch Myers has been named the FCSAA/Region VIII Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the season.

Myers came up huge for the Bucs when they needed him the most last week, tossing a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over Hillsborough, the team at the time, the Bucs were tied with atop the Suncoast Conference standings.  Myers scattered six hits in the win, striking out eight without walking a single batter in the victory.

Myers backed that up with another solid effort Monday night (not factored into last week's voting), winning his team best seventh game of the season to clinch the Bucs first trip to the FCSAA State Tournament .

With Myers bringing home this week's award, it marks the second straight week that a Buc righthander was named the Pitcher of the Week after staff mate Ryan Gusto claimed the honors last week with his complete game shutout effort.

FSW wraps up the regular season on Wednesday in a road matchup at Polk State. A win, or a Hillsborough win over State College of Florida, would clinch the Bucs first outright Suncoast Conference Championship since the program's respawn in 2016.
