Ferreira's Gem Lifts Bucs Over Pasco

Ferreira's Gem Lifts Bucs Over Pasco

February 22, 2019

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA.- Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Jesse Ferreira threw just the fourth nine inning complete game in program history Friday, propelling the Buccaneers to an 8-1 win over Pasco-Hernando State to move FSW to 14-2 on the year.

The Bucs struck first, plating a second inning run without the benefit of a hit, using a walk, a pair of stolen bases, and a Pasco error to take an early 1-0 lead.

FSW starter Jesse Ferreira cruised through four, allowing just a pair of singles, but the Bucs couldn't provide any more run support as it remained a 1-0 game as the teams quickly moved to the fifth.

The Bobcats finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth, using a one out walk and a two out single to even the score at 1-1.

It remained a 1-1 game to the seventh when FSW exploded.  Nate Madej walked as a pinch hitter to leadoff the inning and three pitches later Tyler Solomon crushed a two run shot to center to give the Bucs the lead back at 3-1.  Later in the inning Victor Florentino was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home another run and Thomas Bennett did the same to push the lead to 5-1 at stretch time.

A perfectly executed double steal netted the Bucs another run in the eighth and they added a pair in the ninth for insurance on a two run single by Josh McAllister to make it an 8-1 contest.

Ferreira wouldn't need the help though as he cruised through eight innings on just 85 pitches and took the mound again in the ninth where finished the Bobcats off to secure the 8-1 win for FSW.

Ferreira worked all nine innings, only the fourth time in history a Buc pitcher has done so, scattering six hits and allowing just one run for his second win of the season. Solomon led a nine hit attack for the Bucs, finishing 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI's, both coming on his seventh inning shot.

FSW improves to 14-2 on the year with the win while Pasco-Hernando falls to 6-8.

The Bucs will have a quick turnaround as they take the field again Saturday at 1 PM when they battle Central Florida in Ocala.
