MARIANNA, FLA.- To say that the Ben Bizier era at Florida SouthWestern State has gotten off to a good start would be a gross understatement.  Two days after Bizier's Buccaneers earned the first win over a ranked team in program history, defeating #2 Walters State, the Bucs knocked off the defending National Champion and #1 ranked Chipola Indians not once, but twice on Sunday to remain unbeaten at 7-0 to begin the 2019 season.

Game one of the doubleheader started almost literally with a bang as Tyler Solomon took the second pitch of the contest out of the park to center field to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead before the chalk had settled down into the dirt.

The Indians loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, but managed just a single run to tie the game at one after one.

The second inning started as the first had for the Bucs as Nate Kinsch crushed a ball over the left field wall for a solo shot to give FSW the lead back at 2-1.

That lead held until the fourth when Chipola got a solo home run of their own to start the inning to tie the game and used a defensive miscue by the Bucs to take their first lead of the day at 3-2 after four.

Both teams had traffic in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't push anything across as the game sailed along to the seventh with the Indians still in front 3-2.

A leadoff single from Kinsch in the seventh got the Bucs going and with two outs Josh McCallister came up with some magic, doubling to left to bring Kinsch home and knot the game at three.

It looked like the game was headed to the ninth deadlocked, but with two outs in the eighth, the Indians got their second longball of the game to take a 4-3 lead into the final scheduled inning of play.

With three outs left to work with Connor Bagnieski led off the Buc ninth with a single and moved to second on a passed ball moments later.  A strikeout and a fly out lessened the Bucs chance of a comeback, but after Nate Madej drew a walk, Solomon came up big with an RBI single to score Bagnieski and tie the game at four.

In just the second outing of his FSW career, freshman Mason Adams looked like a veteran in the ninth, needing just 10 pitches to retire the Indians with the game on the line to send the game to extras deadlocked at four.

With momentum on their side, the Bucs headed to the tenth inning with confidence.  The first two men reached without the benefit of a hit and FSW pushed home the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jose Marcano. They weren't done yet.  Later in the inning a single from Drake Dobyanski drove home a run to make it 6-4 and with the bases loaded and two outs, the Indians gifted the Bucs their next four runs with a pair of walks and a pair of hit batters to blow the game open to 10-4.  Just when it looked like the inning would come to a close, Chipola's second error of the inning allowed two more runs to score and as the dust settled in the top of the tenth it was 12-4.

The Bucs brought in Ryan Gusto out of the bullpen and with the wind out of the Indians' sails, Gusto closed the game out, giving FSW a 12-4 win over the nation's top ranked team.

Hits were nine a side with Solomon, Kinsch, and McCallister picking up two hits each for the Bucs.  Solomon accounted for five runs for FSW, driving home three and scoring another two while Kinsch scored three and drove home another.  Adams earned the win on the mound, tossing two innings including the key scoreless ninth to improve to 2-0 on the year.  Joey Mugavero didn't factor into the decision, but kept the Bucs in the game in the middle innings, going four scoreless while allowing just two hits for FSW.

FSW/#1 CHIPOLA GAME ONE BOX SCORE

The Bucs again jumped on the Indians in game two as Solomon walked to begin the contest and scored one batter later as Mikey Burke singled to center and Chipola mishandled the ball in the outfield to make it 1-0 FSW early.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, the Indians struck back with back to back run scoring doubles to take a 2-1 lead.

Things quieted down from there as it remained a 2-1 game in favor of the home team through four.

Chipola was again gracious to the Bucs in the fifth as a pair of walks put a runner in scoring position and then a pair of botched balls behind the plate allowed FSW to score and tie the game without even putting a ball in play.

The Indians got the run back on their third home run of the day in the bottom of the inning to retake a 3-2 advantage.

For the third time in the game, Solomon reached via a walk to begin the FSW ninth and he moved up 90 feed as Burke singled.  Solomon advanced to third on a productive out from Kinsch and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at three.  Victor Florentino and Walker Rincones to load the bases back up for the Bucs and with two outs Dobyanski came up with the biggest swing of his young FSW career, blasting the second pitch he saw over the wall in left for a grand slam to break the tie and put the Bucs up 7-3.

With their closer Thomas Haggerty already in the game, the Bucs knew this one was on ice.  Haggerty needed just seven pitches to induce a pair of ground ball outs and a fly out to end it, sewing up the 7-3 win for the Bucs to complete the sweep.

For the second straight game, hits were level at five a piece, but FSW took advantage of six walks, five hit batters, and a pair of Chipola errors to tally seven runs while Buc pitching allowed just three walks and FSW played a clean game behind their staff.

Outside of Dobyanski's heroics, Solomon made the biggest impact for the Purple and Aqua and he did so without a hit, walking three times and scoring twice in the victory.  FSW used four pitchers in the game, getting 1 2/3 innings of solid relief from Marc Davis who struck out four and two clean frames from Haggerty who earned the win for FSW.

FSW/#1 CHIPOLA GAME TWO BOX SCORE

With the Sunday sweep, FSW remains unbeaten at 7-0, improving on the already best start in program history.  Chipola falls to 2-3 on the year.

The Bucs return home on Wednesday when they host ASA Miami in non-conference action at the Historic City of Palms Park.  First pitch for that game is slated for 6 PM.
