CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Wednesday was a pretty good day for Florida SouthWestern sophomore Julija Grubisic Cabo. First, the Bucs outside hitter helped lead FSW to a three set sweep of rival and previously unbeaten Miami Dade in front of a boisterous home crowd at Suncoast Credit Union Arena and right after the game, she learned that for the first time in her Buccaneer career, she was named NJCAA National Player of the Week.
It was another big week for Grubisic Cabo in three FSW wins as the sophomore averaged 3.78 kills and 3.11 digs per set while hitting .375. She had a pair of double-doubles on the week, putting up 12 kills and 10 digs in a sweep of #13 Eastern Florida before going for 14 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Santa Fe. She wrapped up the week by leading FSW to another sweep of a ranked opponent, finishing with a matching 8 kills and 8 digs as the Bucs flew past #16 Daytona State on the road.
Grubisic Cabo has been a model of consistency this season for the Bucs, averaging 3.40 kills per set while hitting .356 on the pin. She has registered 8 or more kills in 17 of 19 FSW games this season and 10 of 11 Citrus Conference matches.
Grubisic Cabo is the first FSW player to be named NJCAA National Player of the Week this season and the first since Alondra Alarcon earned the honors in week nine last season.
FSW is back in action on Saturday for the final time during the regular season as they host Polk State in a 2 PM start in Suncoast Credit Union Arena. It will serve as the Bucs Sophomore Day with eight FSW sophomores including Grubisic Cabo being honored in a pregame ceremony.
