TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Julija Grubisic Cabo's first week as a Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneer couldn't have gone much better on the opening weekend of the 2024 season as the sophomore transfer from UMBC averaged 3.42 kills per set and hit .364 to lead the Bucs to the Battle at the Beach Championship to earn herself FCSAA Player of the Week honors in week one.
Grubisic Cabo was steady as an Ox for the Bucs, registering 9 or more kills in all four matches while hitting at or above the .300 mark in three of the four contests. She commenced her Buccaneer career with 11 kills and a .500 hitting mark in a 3-0 sweep of Missouri State-West Plains on Friday. She backed that up later in the day with a big, 11 kill, 8 dig, 4 block stat line in a dominating three set sweep for FSW over #4 Salt Lake. Saturday it was more of the same as she had 9 kills and 6 digs in an early morning win over #11 Utah State-Eastern and closed out the tournament with her first double-double as a Buc, putting up 10 kills and 12 digs in a three set sweep of #5 Trinity Valley to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Overall on the week Grubisic Cabo averaged 3.42 kills and 2.67 digs per set while hitting .364 for the Bucs.
Grubisic Cabo shared the Player of the Week podium this week with teammate Camilla Brandalise who was named the FCSAA Setter Player of the Week.
Grubisic Cabo and the Bucs are back in action this weekend at the Spring Hill Suites Cheyenne Invitational where they again have a trio of Nationally Ranked opponents on the schedule as they take on #12 New Mexico Military, #3 Northeastern, and #16 Casper before rounding out the weekend with the host Golden Eagles of Laramie County.
