Bucs Sweep FCSAA Weekly Awards

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- For the first time this season, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers swept all three weekly awards presented by the FCSAA as Victoria Zibecchi was named the Player of the Week, Roberta Purashaj collected another Setter of the Week, and Abby Toeniskoetter was named the Defensive Player of the Week in a state release on Tuesday.

Zibecchi was named the FCSAA Player of the Week for the first time in her career after she had 11 kills and hit .500 in just two sets of action in the Bucs 3-0 win over Indian River on Wednesday.  On the season the Bucs sophomore ranks second on the team and seventh in the Citrus Conference averaging 2.94 kills per set while her .278 hitting percentage is third best of any of the top 10 hitters in the state.

Purashaj secured her fifth FCSAA Setter of the Week honor after dishing out 36 assists and connecting at a rate of .643 in FSW's sweep of the Pioneers.  In the win Purashaj broke the Bucs all-time assists record with her 1,632nd career helper. She ranks second in the state and fourth Nationally averaging 10.81 assists per set on the season while quarterbacking FSW to the top team hitting percentage in the country at .318.

Toeniskoetter had a big game on both sides of the net for the Bucs Wednesday against the Pioneers, notching 6 kills on 8 swings on the offensive side and stuffing 5 Indian River attacks to earn FCSAA Defensive Player of the Week honors.  Toeniskoetter is hitting a team best .544 this season in limited action while racking up 23 blocks at a rate of 1.15 per set on the year.

The Bucs wrapped up the regular season 24-1 last week and will head into the upcoming FCSAA State Tournament at Suncoast Credit Union Arena as the #1 seed beginning on Friday. If the Bucs win Friday in the semifinals, they will move onto the FCSAA State Championship Game Saturday at 3 PM and then will also play in the NJCAA Atlantic District Championships on Sunday at either 12:00 or 3:00 PM.
