Alarcon Earns NJCAA & AVCA National Player of the Week Honors

FORT MYERS, Fla.- For the first time in her illustrious Florida SouthWestern Volleyball career, sophomore outside hitter Alondra Alarcon has been named the NJCAA & AVCA National Player of the Week as announced by both organizations on Wednesday.

Alarcon had a huge week for the Bucs in a pair of road wins over ranked opponents last week.  She started the week with a 24 kill, 22 dig performance in a nailbiting 3-2 road win over #14 Polk State, becoming the first player in FSW Volleyball history with a 20/20 game. In the win, she surpassed the 500 career kill mark, making her one of just five Buccaneers in program history to achieve that feat.  She was at it again on Saturday against #17 Eastern Florida, willing the Bucs to a 3-1 victory with 20 kills and 11 digs for the Purple and Aqua. In doing so, she became the first player in program history to record 20 or more kills in back to back contests.  Overall Alarcon finished the week averaging 4.9 kills and 3.7 digs per set while also racking up 7 blocks in the two wins.

Alarcon ranks 5th in the country, averaging 4.12 kills per set on the season and is hitting .329 from the pin which is the highest of any player Nationally who averages more than 4 kills per set on the year.

Alarcon is the first FSW player to earn National Player of the Week honors since teammate Roberta Purashaj accomplished the feat in week one of the 2022 campaign.

Bucs fans will  have three more chances during the regular season to see Alarcon and the Bucs at home in the next week as FSW hosts Santa Fe tonight at 6:00 PM, #6 Miami Dade Saturday at 2:00 PM, and Indian River next Wednesday at 6:30 PM at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
