Bucs' Baker Named FCSAA Setter of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Leading her team to a pair of wins over Top 10 ranked opponents and averaging 11.4 assists per set, Florida SouthWestern State freshman Fiona Baker has been named the FCSAA Setter of the Week, the third straight week a Buccaneer has won a weekly state award.

Baker racked up 137 assists on the week while she quarterbacked an FSW offense that hit .319 in their four contests. Tuesday she was spectacular in FSW's conference opener against St. Petersburg, dishing out 41 assists in a three set win while the Bucs hit a program record .560 as a team. Thursday, against #9 Polk State, she finished with 39 assists and the Bucs hit .355 as they swept past the 9th ranked Eagles 3-0. Baker was again solid on Sunday as the Bucs took on a pair of top six ranked opponents.  She had 32 assists in a 3-0 win over #6 Daytona State and had 25 against top ranked Miami Dade in their final of four games on the week

On the season, Baker ranks second in the state and seventh nationally with 415 assists.

Her award means that FSW has now had a Player of the Week selection in three straight weeks with Viktoriya Ivanova winning the Defensive Player of the Week award in week two and Julia De Sa winning Offensive Player of the Week honors last week.

The 8th ranked Bucs will be back in action today as they travel to Bradenton to take on State College of Florida in Suncoast Conference action at 6 PM.
