FORT MYERS, Fla.- While the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were in the midst of their postseason run last week in Niceville, one of their own was being honored, as two-time All-American Tina Stephens was elected to the FCSAA Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, making her the first Buccaneer Basketball player in program history to do so.
Stephens helped put FSW Women's Basketball on the map in her two years with the Bucs. She was the first 1,000 point scorer in FSW history and continues to hold the FSW career records for points scored with 1,071 and rebounds with 490.
Stephens was a two-time NJCAA All-American, earning Honorable Mention honors her freshman season before following that up as FSW's first 1st Team All-American as a sophomore in 2019.
As a freshman, she led FSW to their first of five straight Suncoast Conference Championships, averaging 14.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while racking up 10 double-doubles on the year. She was the Suncoast Conference Player of the Year and a 1st Team FCSAA All-State selection while also earning All-Tournament Team honors at the FCSAA State Tournament.
During her second season in Fort Myers she led the Bucs to a program record 30 wins and their second straight Suncoast Conference Championship while also helping FSW earn their first trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in program history. She became the first FSW player to average 20 points per game in a season while shooting 54% from the field and also pulling down 7.4 rebounds per contest. She was once again named the Suncoast Conference Player of the Year and a 1st Team FCSAA All-State selection while becoming FSW's first 1st Team NJCAA All-American.
During her two years at FSW Stephens led the Bucs to a 56-10 overall record and a 17-1 record in Suncoast Conference play.
Upon her graduation from Florida SouthWestern, Stephens signed at the University of Kansas where she played for the Jayhawks for two seasons, playing in 41 games before wrapping up her playing career in 2022 at Troy University. She concluded her collegiate career with 1,733 points and 919 rebounds while shooting 50.6% from the field.
She joins Softball player Courtney Gettins as the only two former FSW student-athletes who have been named to their respective sport's Hall of Fame.
