CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers topped the NJCAA National Rankings for the fifth straight week on Monday, checking in at #1 ahead of Region 8 rivals Northwest Florida and Indian River in the week six poll.
The Bucs cruised to 33-1 on the year last week with a pair of Citrus Conference sweeps over St. Petersburg and #19 Eastern Florida. Tuesday the Bucs blanked the Titans in both ends of a doubleheader, winning game one 8-0 and game two 2-0. Saturday they went on the road and picked up a Top 20 sweep of Eastern Florida, dominating game one in a 9-1 win before coming from behind for a 7-5 win in game two to finish off the day.
The top five remained intact from a week ago with FSW, Northwest Florida, and Indian River locking out an all Florida top three, and McLennan and Grayson rounding out the top five. Six of the Top 10 were from the Sunshine State with Miami Dade and Seminole State at #7 and #8 and Daytona State at #10. Other Region 8 teams in the Top 25 included Santa Fe at #19, Eastern Florida at #22, and Chipola at #23.
The Bucs have a busy week ahead as they play two at home against Hillsborough on Tuesday at 1 PM at Buccaneers Park before hitting the road for four games in 28 hours as they battle #8 Seminole State Thursday in Sanford before jumping over to take on #10 Daytona on Friday in Daytona Beach.
