FORT MYERS, Fla.- The first bona fide superstar in Florida SouthWestern Athletics history has earned her due as two-time 1st Team NJCAA All-American Courtney Gettins has become the first former Buccaneer named to the FCSAA Hall of Fame.
Gettins had an unbelievable two year stretch for the Bucs in their inaugural season in 2016 and year two in 2017. An absolute workhorse for the Bucs, Gettins pitched in 91 games in her two seasons, 22 more than any other player in program history, going 73-7 with 62 complete games. Her 303 1/3 innings pitched as a freshman are more than any other FSW pitcher has amassed during their career and she added 220 more to that as a sophomore to set a program record that will never be touched. She racked up 518 career strikeouts and pitched to a 1.46 career ERA for FSW.
Her trophy case is plum full to say the least, twice earning 1st Team NJCAA, NFCA, and Fastpitch News All-American honors while being named the NJCAA and Fastpitch News National Pitcher of the Year in 2016. She was honored by the State with 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-Conference honors in both seasons as well as being named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Year in 2017.
After graduating from FSW, Gettins went on to pitch in 43 games for the University of Alabama, going 20-7 for the Crimson Tide and posting a 2.90 ERA in 183 innings pitched.
She has begun her post-playing coaching career with stops at Jacksonville University, the University of Texas, and now Mercer University where she has been the past four seasons.
