CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After earning her second FCSAA Pitcher of the Week award on Monday, Florida SouthWestern freshman Zoe Yzaguirre one upped herself on Wednesday as the righthander was named the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week, the first FSW pitcher to earn the award in nearly three years.
Yzaguirre fired 19 shutout innings over three starts last week, going a perfect 3-0 with 21 strikeouts. Tuesday she led the Bucs to a Citrus Conference opening win over Hillsborough with three shutout frames. Thursday she went the distance in a nine inning scoreless marathon that the Bucs finally broke through in the bottom of the 9th for a 1-0 win over #10 Seminole State. Saturday she shut down red hot #13 Daytona State, striking out 13 in a complete game shutout of the Falcons to close out a perfect week.
She is the first FSW pitcher to earn National Pitcher of the Week honors since Baylee Haggard during the 2022 season.
Yzaguirre and the Bucs are back in action Saturday at Buccaneers Park in Fort Myers when they host Santa Fe in a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
