TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After sparkling in three starts last week, Florida SouthWestern righthander Zoe Yzaguirre has been named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Yzaguirre couldn't have been any better for the Bucs last week, spinning 19 shutout innings and going 3-0 while striking out 21 and walking just two. Tuesday in the Bucs Citrus Conference opener against Hillsborough she went three scoreless innings and allowed just two hits to earn the win in a 9-0 FSW run rule over the Hawks. Thursday she fired a nine inning complete game shutout, scattering four hits against #10 Seminole State to will the Bucs to a 1-0 extra innings victory. Saturday she faced another Top 25 ranked opponent in #13 Daytona State and it was once again nothing but goose eggs for her opponents as she yielded just four hits in another complete game shutout while tying her career high with 13 strikeouts in a 2-0 FSW victory.
On the year Yzaguirre is a perfect 8-0, posting a 0.84 ERA in 50 innings pitched. She has racked up 67 strikeouts and opponents are hitting just .157 against her on the season.
The Bucs hope she saved some of those zeros for a big Citrus Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, as the top ranked Bucs travel to Fort Pierce to take on defending National Champions Indian River at 4 PM.
