FORT MYERS, Fla.- It will be a Buccaneer reunion of sorts next year in Macon, Georgia as Florida SouthWestern All-American Laura Vigna has signed to play at Mercer University where she will play for former FSW All-American Courtney Gettins who is an Assistant Coach for the Bears.
Vigna brings a wealth of experience along with her to Mercer as she was not only a two-time National Champion during her time with FSW, but also an Olympian in the 2020 Tokyo Games. She was a .401 career hitter with the Bucs, accounting for 185 runs in her two seasons, scoring 104 and driving in another 81. As a freshman in 2022 she hit .454 and ripped 24 doubles which broke the FSW single season record, while driving in 50 and stealing 23 bases to earn NJCAA All-American honors. In her two seasons with the Bucs, Vigna helped lead FSW to a 110-11 overall record, a Suncoast Conference Championship, a Southern Conference Championship, an FCSAA State Championship, and two NJCAA National Championships.
Vigna will join a Mercer squad coming off of a 20-37 campaign that saw them go 8-10 in SoCon action before finishing 3rd at the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Vigna will give the Bears a Buc on their roster for the third straight season after former FSW All-American Rebeca Laudino was an All-Conference performer in the Orange and Black the past two seasons.
Vigna is the third FSW sophomore to sign at the NCAA Division I level off of their 2023 Championship squad, joining Belle Sardja (USF) and Kylee Graham (Toledo) while she is the fifth player overall to sign at the four year level, including Caroline Figueroa (Barry) and Camille Graham (Embry Riddle).
