Worthy Inks With SAC Champs Anderson

FORT MYERS, Fla.- After winning an NJCAA South Atlantic District Championship with the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers this season, sophomore outfielder Ava Worthy will join the reigning South Atlantic Conference Champion Anderson Trojans next season after signing with the Division II powerhouse Monday.

Worthy played in 20 games for the National Champion Buccaneers in 2022, hitting .375 with 5 RBIs and 7 runs scored.  She was off to a hot start to the season before an injury derailed her and forced her to miss the remainder of the regular season.  She came back with a vengeance in the postseason though, scoring the game-winning run for FSW in their opening game of the FCSAA State Tournament against rival Chipola and doubling in the Bucs clinching win over Seminole State to return to the National Tournament.  She played in seven of eight games for FSW in Yuma, Arizona in their run to the National Championship, scoring runs in one run victories over Yavapai and Odessa.

Worthy will join a Trojans squad coming off of a 40 win campaign which included a South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship.  Anderson advanced to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Final before falling just short to Lincoln Memorial University, where Worthy's 2022 FSW teammate Sterre den Duijn will play next season.

Worthy is the sixth Buc to sign at the four year level this season joining Baylee Haggard & McKenzie Wittenberg (Florida Gulf Coast), Taylor Jensen (UTSA), Charlotte Drijvers (Barry), and den Duijn (Lincoln Memorial).
