FSW Wins Second Consecutive NJCAA National Championship

FSW Wins Second Consecutive NJCAA National Championship

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers won their second consecutive NJCAA National Championship Saturday afternoon in Yuma, Arizona, beating #7 McLennan not once, but twice, becoming the first team to win the tournament after falling to the elimination bracket since Chattanooga State in 2012.

In game one Belle Sardja kept the powerful Highlander offense off balance, firing a complete game in a 4-2 win while Pallas Potter paced the FSW offense with three hits.

In the second game FSW took an early 5-2 lead after scoring in each of the first four innings, but a three spot for McLennan tied the game at 5 in the 5th.  As they did all week the resilient Bucs fought back, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning to go back ahead before hanging on for a 7-6 win to raise the National Championship trophy for the second straight season.

Belle Sardja, Charlotte Drijvers, Feline Poot, and Shenita Tucker were all named to the All-Tournament Team while Poot was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player and Sardja was named both the Most Outstanding Pitcher and the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
