Ellis Named FCSAA Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Leading the Florida SouthWestern State Softball team to a perfect 8-0 record last week, Buccaneer sophomores Natavia Ellis and Haley Ellefson were honored by the FCSAA on Tuesday as they were named the state's Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Ellis had a monster week for the Bucs, hitting .714 with two home runs, 16 RBIs and nine runs scored in the middle of the FSW order.  She had hits in all seven games she saw action in and drove in runs in six of the seven. Her best game of the week came against Ave Maria when she went 3-3 with a single, a double, a home run, and 6 RBIs to lead the Bucs to a run rule win.  She wrapped up the week by going 2-3 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Bucs knocked off #5 Chipola in a rematch of the 2019 District H Championship game.  On the season Ellis is hitting .583 with four home runs and 29 RBIs.

Ellefson was nearly perfect for the Bucs last week, going 4-0 without allowing a single earned run in 14 1/3 innings pitched.  She yielded just seven hits while striking out 20 on the week.  Thursday against Ave Maria she struck out seven in three innings of work while Sunday she went 3 1/3 hitless frames to beat Tallahassee. On the season Ellefson is 8-1 with a 0.72 ERA in 38 2/3 innings pitched.

With their FCSAA Player of the Week nods, Ellis and Ellefson will now be the state's nomination for National Player and Pitcher of the Week which will be announced Wednesday by the NJCAA.

Ellis, Ellefson, and the rest of the Bucs will take the field again on Wednesday when they host ASA Miami in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4 PM at City of Palms Park in Downtown Fort Myers.
