LONGWOOD, FLA.- Following a 54-3 season and a nine week run as the #1 team in the country, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers had six players named to the FCSAA All-State Teams as announced at the state's annual awards banquet at the state tournament last week. Kelsi Collins was honored as the State Pitcher of the Year after her spectacular sophomore campaign while Rebeca Laudino, Paris Woods, and Owen Bowers joined her on the First Team and freshmen Lindsey Corbin and Haley Ellefson were tabbed Second Team All-State.
Collins led the six selections as she was named the Pitcher of the Year in the FCSAA. She led the state in both wins with 25 and ERA at 1.15 this season while finishing fifth in strikeouts with 187. She pitched in 33 games and started 31 for the Bucs, logging 158 innings for FSW. Collins had 11 starts in which she did not yield an earned run, finishing off seven of those for shutouts.
Laudino was named a First Team selection on the infield, one week after being named the Suncoast Conference Player of the Year. Laudino led the state in hitting by a wide margin, putting up a .527 mark as a freshman, 47 points higher than the next closest hitter. Her 98 hits on the season led the FCSAA and ranked second in the nation. Her 80 runs also led all hitters in the Sunshine State while her 43 stolen bases on the year ranked fourth.
Woods was the Bucs third First Team pick, representing FSW in the outfield. Playing all 57 games for the Bucs this season, Woods hit .406 with 20 extra base hits and 49 RBI's, also stealing 30 bases on the year. Woods logged 22 multi-hit games including five straight in early March.
Bowers was one of two at large selections to the First Team after putting up monster numbers during her rookie season in Fort Myers. She led the state and finished second nationally with 79 RBI's on the season, blasting 18 doubles and 17 home runs in the process. Bowers hit .410 in 144 at bats, seeing action in 56 of 57 games for the Bucs.
Ellefson was an at large pick on the Second Team following her freshman year. She posted numbers that put her in rare air this season, going 14-0 with a 1.40 ERA in the circle while hitting .402 with six home runs and 39 RBI's at the plate. She was the only player in the state in 2019 to have both 10 wins on the mound and a .400 batting average at the plate.
Corbin was a Second Team selection on the infield. She started 53 games for the Bucs, hitting .387 with eight doubles and four homers on the year. Corbin stole 14 bags and drove in 36, while striking out just eight times in 137 at bats on the year. She was plunked by 21 pitches this season, more than any other hitter in the FCSAA and third most nationally.
The Bucs four First Team selections will now have the opportunity to be nominated for All-American consideration which will be announced at the end of the NJCAA National Tournament at the end of the month.
