CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers held the top spot in the NJCAA Top 20 rankings for the fifth straight week this week, using their 42-1 record to remain the #1 team in the country as the 2019 regular season begins its home stretch.
The Bucs dominated their three games last week, outscoring their opponents by a score of 32-2 in three run rule wins. Tuesday they put it on South Florida State to the tune of 10-1 and 14-1 wins before using a Sarah Lawton perfect game to blow by Polk State in a makeup game on Thursday. FSW sits at 42-1 overall and 9-1 in Suncoast Conference play after one round of conference action.
The top five teams in the country remained the same this week after the group combined to go 15-0 last week. The Bucs check in at #1 for the fifth straight week while FCSAA rival Chipola is #2, Tyler is #3, Seminole State Oklahoma is #4, and defending National Champions Temple are #5. 19 of the 20 teams in the poll remained the same this week with just a little bit of movement inside the top 20. Fellow Suncoast Conference member State College of Florida was the lone newcomer to the poll as they replaced Southern Idaho at #20.
The Bucs are back in action Tuesday night in Clearwater when they travel up the coast to take on St. Petersburg in a Suncoast Conference doubleheader beginning at 5 PM.
