Panthers No Match For #3 FSW

LAKE WORTH, FLA.- The #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers unloaded on Palm Beach State Thursday night in Lake Worth as Lindsey Corbin homered twice and the Bucs scored 10 runs in the first inning of a 15-0 game win run rule victory and didn't let up in game two of the twinbill, winning 11-0 to remain undefeated at 15-0 on the season.

The first game was never a contest.  On the third pitch of the game FSW leadoff hitter Rebeca Laudino cracked a solo home run and six pitches later Lindsey Corbin did the same to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead.  RBI singles from Pallas Potter and Ali Yawn later gave FSW a 5-0 advantage and before they got their first out of the game, the Bucs led the Panthers 6-0.  They didn't stop there.  Later in the inning Laudino moved halfway to the cycle with a two run double and on the first pitch she saw, Corbin hammered her second home run of the inning to make it 10-0 Bucs.

The Bucs were back at it in the second as Laudino collected her third extra base hit in the first two innings with an RBI triple and Corbin continued her monster afternoon with an RBI double to make it 12-0 FSW.

Kelsi Collins dominated through three innings in the circle before giving way to Sarah Clontz who spun a 1-2-3 fourth.

FSW added onto their lead in the fifth as Haley Ellefson got into the home run derby with a two run shot and later in the frame Kayla Domon singled home a run to make it a 15-0 game.

Clontz worked her second straight 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts to close it out and mercifully end the game in a 15-0 run rule after five.

It was a banner day for the FSW offense who pounded out 18 hits in the victory.  Corbin finished 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double, and four RBI's, accounting for 10 total bases while Laudino was a perfect 3 for 3 with four RBI's and missed the elusive cycle by just a single.  Overshadowed by Corbin and Laudino's big days, Potter and Domon combined for six hits, three runs scored, and three RBI's at the bottom of the Bucs order as well.  Collins earned the win in the circle, cruising through three innings to improve to 7-0 on the year while Clontz retired all six batters she faced to close it out for the Bucs.

#3 FSW/PALM BEACH GAME ONE BOX SCORE

It didn't take long for the Bucs to get things going in game two either.  Three batters in, they were on the board as Madison Johnson lifted a fly ball to score Laudino from third to make it 1-0 FSW.  Later in the inning Owen Bowers doubled to center to plate another and after a half inning of play it was 2-0 Bucs.

Bucs starter Haley Ellefson kept the Panthers quiet and FSW took advantage as they added to their lead in the top of the fourth.  Bowers sent one flying over the wall for a solo home run to begin the inning and two batters later Elsie Rivera doubled home a run to make it 4-0 FSW.

In the fifth Shanika Klett got in on the action, lifting a solo shot over the fence in right and after Bowers' third hit of the game, Paris Woods drove her home with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 6-0.  Rivera picked up her second RBI in as many innings and after five it was a 7-0 game in favor of the Purple and Aqua.

The Bucs sealed the win in the sixth as Klett drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0 and Bowers put the finishing touches on the contest with a three run bomb to left to make it an 11-0 game.

Sarah Lawton came in from the Bucs bullpen and made short work of Palm Beach in the bottom of the inning to finish things off and give FSW an 11-0 run rule win.

FSW finished with 14 hits to just two for Palm Beach in the contest.  Bowers nearly exactly replicated Corbin's big game one as she finished 4 for 4 with two home runs, a double, and five RBI's to power the FSW offense.  Rivera and Klett each finished with two hits and two RBI's in the win.  Ellefson earned the win in the circle for the Bucs, going five shutout innings to improve to 4-0 on the year.

#3 FSW/PALM BEACH GAME TWO BOX SCORE

The Bucs sweep the season series from the Panthers, outscoring Palm Beach 42-0 in the four games.

FSW improves upon the already best start in program history at 15-0 while Palm Beach remains winless at 0-13.

The Bucs have a quick turnaround as they return home Friday to City of Palms Park for a 4 PM exhibition with the Japanese National Team who is currently ranked #2 in the world rankings.  FSW remains home on Sunday for a top 10 matchup with #8 Indian River, that doubleheader will begin at 1 PM.
