Bucs' Ace Named NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The awards continued to pour in for Florida SouthWestern State ace Kelsi Collins on Wednesday as one day after the sophomore was named the FastPitch News and the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week, she was named the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week.

A Preseason All-American, Collins lived up to the billing on opening weekend, spinning 10 innings without allowing a single earned run in a pair of Buccaneer victories.  She struck out 15 and did not walk a single batter while allowing just three hits in the circle.  Friday she beat Santa Fe while punching out 10 opposing hitters and Saturday she was untouchable against #12 Seminole State, going five no-hit innings in a shutout win over the Raiders.

It was a big week at the national level for FCSAA student-athletes as joining Collins with Player of the Week awards were Eastern Florida State's Connor Brian (Baseball), Chipola's Eila Infante (Softball), and Broward's DeAndre Pinckney (Men's Basketball).

Collins and the Bucs are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Miami to take on Miami Dade in a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.  They don't return back home to City of Palms Park until February 15th when they host the Japanese National Team in exhibition action.
