Lopez Headed to the Steel City, Signs with Point Park

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern's Fernando Lopez is headed North after the 6'6 forward signed with Point Park University in Pittsburgh on Monday in the Follett Hospitality Suite at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

Lopez played in 20 games for the Suncoast Conference Champion Buccaneers in 2018-19.  He shot 56% from the field for FSW, who was ranked #1 in the NJCAA poll for the final six weeks of the regular season.  Lopez had his two highest scoring efforts of the year in back to back games to kick off 2019, going a combined 5 for 7 from the field and putting up 11 points against Hillsborough and Victory Rock.  As a freshman at Dawson CC (Mont.), Lopez averaged 4.5 points per game, scoring in double figures three times, including a career high 16 point effort against Little Big Horn.

Lopez will head to the Steel City to play for the Pioneers next season who are coming off of a 9-18 campaign in 2018-19. At 6'6, Lopez would have equaled the tallest player on PPU's roster this season in graduated senior Cortez Allen, opening an opportunity for Lopez to play down low for the Pioneers next season.

With Lopez signing at Point Park, six FSW sophomores have now signed to play at the next level.  Lopez joins Charles Manning Jr. (LSU), Maddox Daniels (Colorado), DeShawn Thomas (Winthrop), Tyler Morman (Wyoming), and Destin Barnes (Jacksonville) inked to move on next season.
