Thomas Earns FCSAA Player of the Week Nod For Second Time

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Leading the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers to a Citrus Conference series win over Polk State to clinch a home series for the upcoming FCSAA State Tournament, Bucs sophomore Justin Thomas has been named the FCSAA State Player of the Week for the second time in the month of April.

Thomas was on fire for the Bucs last week, hitting .526 with seven extra base hits in four FSW games.  Tuesday he led FSW to a 10-6 win over State College of Florida, going 3-4 with a home run and three stolen bases.  Thursday he was at it again with another three knock game, going 3-5 with three doubles and a pair of runs scored in the Bucs series opener with Polk.  Saturday, with a home playoff series on the line for the Bucs on the final day of the regular season, he made sure that the Purple and Aqua would be at Buccaneers Park for the regional round, notching his third straight three hit game, going 3-4, missing the cycle by just a triple in a 5-1 win over Polk before picking up his fifth double of the week in a 5-3 win over the Eagles to sweep the doubleheader in the Bucs regular season finale.

Thomas finished the regular season hitting .390 with 20 doubles, 13 home runs, and 34 RBIs, each of which ranked in the top five of the Citrus Conference.  He is one of just three players in the NJCAA Division I ranks this season with 30 or more stolen bases and 12 or more home runs.

Thomas and the Bucs head into the 2024 postseason as the #3 seed in the FCSAA State Tournament.  The Bucs will host Santa Fe in a best two out of three series at home at Buccaneers Park beginning on Friday at 3 PM.
