Shaver/Williams Named FCSAA All-State

LAKELAND, Fla.- A pair of Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were named to the FCSAA All-State Team released Thursday at the State Tournament banquet in Lakeland as outfielder AJ Shaver was named a 1st Team All-State selection while fellow slugger Derek Williams was a 2nd Team pick. 

Shaver adds 1st Team All-State accolades to his resume after being named the Southern Conference Player of the Year last week.  Shaver had the finest single season of any player in FSW history in 2023, setting new program records with a .403 batting average and 19 home runs while tying the single season record with 24 doubles.  His 63 RBIs also broke a Buccaneers all-time mark, but was later topped by teammate Derek Williams to put him second in program single season history.  Shaver's .882 slugging percentage this season was tops in the state of Florida and his 24 doubles, 19 home runs, and 28 stolen bases all ranked in the top three.

Williams was a 2nd Team All-State pick after setting a new FSW single season record with 65 RBIs  which was good for 5th in the state this season.  Williams joined Shaver in breaking the Bucs single season home run record with 16 while also clubbing 18 doubles on the year.
