Williams Earns FCSAA Player of the Week Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After driving in 14 runs in four Florida SouthWestern State ballgames last week, sophomore slugger Derek Williams has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week, the second week in a row a Buccaneer has earned the honor.

Williams had another big week for the Bucs last week, hitting .625 and slugging 1.313 in four contests.  He ripped five doubles, hammered a pair of home runs, and drove in 14 on the week.  He had back to back five RBI games to start the week, going 3-4 with a homer in Tuesday's win over St. Petersburg followed by a 2-4 effort against A3 Academy Wednesday in which he clubbed a pair of doubles.  His hot streak carried into the weekend as Friday he had three more hits and two more doubles in a dominating win over Polk State, before closing the week Saturday against Seminole State with two hits and another home run.

On the season Williams is hitting .414 with seven home runs, which is tied for the state lead, and 30 RBIs which ranks third.

Williams will look to stay hot on Tuesday as the Bucs travel to Clearwater to take on old Suncoast Conference rival St. Petersburg in a 5 PM first pitch.  The Bucs return home this weekend with a trio of games as they battle Polk State at 2:00 on Friday before hosting Seminole State for a pair beginning at noon on Saturday at Buccaneers Park on campus at FSW.
