Izarra Inks With Patriots

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern State shortstop Jose Izarra has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Division I power Dallas Baptist University next season.

Izarra has started 30 of 33 games at shortstop for the Bucs this season after transferring at the break from the University of Miami where he spent his freshman season.  He has put together an impressive slash line of .371/.475/.619 for FSW this season, good for a 1.094 OPS on the year.  Izarra has clubbed 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 home runs while ranking second on the team with 33 RBIs on the season.  Izarra has hit in 24 of 30 games this season and has racked up nine multi-hit games including five on a recent career long 12 game hitting streak.  Equally as impressive with the glove, Izarra has fielded .970 this season with just three errors in 97 chances while being in on 17 double plays for the Bucs.

Izarra will join a tradition rich DBU program that has played in six straight NCAA Regional Finals including breaking through last season and making their second trip to the NCAA Super Regionals.  This season the Patriots are off to a 12-7 start against one of the toughest schedules in the country and currently rank #1 in the NCAA RPI Poll.

Izarra and the Bucs are currently in the midst of their second 10 game winning streak of the season.  FSW sits at 22-11 overall and 9-2 in Suncoast Conference play while checking in at #14 in the latest NJCAA National Rankings.

Izarra is the seventh Division I and ninth overall signee for the Bucs this season, joining Magnus Ellerts (Florida), Ben Peterson (North Carolina), Grant Besser (Rutgers), Riley Skeen (South Florida), Matthew Corpas (Florida International), Nicholas Regalado (FGCU), Frank Elissalt (Nova Southeastern), and Kalvin Alexander (Georgia Southwestern).
