CHARLOTTE, N.C.- It was a record breaking year in competition for the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers and a pretty good one in the classroom as well as 36 student-athletes and 4 Buccaneer teams were honored by the NJCAA during their annual Academic Awards release.
The Bucs had 10 student-athletes earn NJCAA All-Academic First Team honors with perfect 4.00 GPAs this year. The group was highlighted by five Bucs Volleyball players (Nina Boledovicova, Sofia Augusto, Julija Grubisic Cabo, Magi Milicevic, and Abby Toeniskoetter) and four FSW Softball players (Lizzy Kwakernaak, Megan Veilleux, Virginia Mambelli, and Puk de Groot) and Nik Pereira from the Bucs Baseball team. Of the 10 First Team selections, eight earned All-Citrus Conference honors on the court and in the field as well.
FSW also had 10 student-athletes earn Second Team nods for achieving between a 3.80 and 3.99 GPA this academic year. The Bucs Softball team had the most Second Team picks which included Emily Allegood, Karolina Dvorakova, Katey McGee, Georgiana Woods, and McKenzie Bailey-McDowell. Volleyball (Sara Gasparini and Giovanna Rocha) and Women's Basketball (Ivy Brown and Renita Harris) had two Second Teamers each while Logan O'Leary represented the Bucs Baseball team.
To round out the award winners was 16 Bucs who earned NJCAA All-Academic Third Team accolades. Once again the Bucs Softball paced the group with five selections. Representing the FCSAA Champs was Skylar Brennan, Nicole Edmiaston, Makayla Jakubuwski, Faith Wharton, and Ashley Bert. The FSW Volleyball and Baseball teams had four Third Teamers each with the Bucs Volleyball team represented by Nele Broszat, Patrycja Labucka, Irina Makinen, and Anna Marzella while Parker Burgess, Brett Dennis, Anthony Ruocco, and Beau Brailey were the Bucs Baseball selections. Three Bucs Basketball players also made their way onto the team as Elina Briede and Sarah Owona represented the Women's side and Sean Gomez represented the Men's side.
Along with the individual awards the Bucs student-athletes won, four FSW teams were also honored with team awards. The Bucs Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, and Women's Basketball teams were all named to the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year list for achieving a 3.00 or better team GPA for the year.
