FSW Top 10 of 2018-19- #10, Lawton's Perfect Game

FSW Top 10 of 2018-19- #10, Lawton's Perfect Game

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Over the next two weeks, we will count down the top 10 moments of the 2018-19 Florida SouthWestern State Athletics year.  Today we begin at #10 with perfection.

In a late March makeup game with Polk State, FSW sophomore Sarah Lawton made history, spinning the Bucs' first perfect game on the softball diamond.

She was untouchable, sitting down all 15 Eagle hitters she faced, needing just 54 total pitches to accomplish the feat in the run rule shortened contest.

The achievement was no small task, especially considering that FSW has heralded the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Year in two of their four seasons of existence thus far (Courtney Gettins-2016, Kelsi Collins-2019).

Lawton finished her sophomore season with the Bucs 12-2 on the mound, posting a microscopic 1.36 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 98 innings pitched.

Lawton wrapped up her FSW career as one of the most accomplished pitchers in program history, notching a career 1.26 ERA which is the lowest of any Buc hurler in the first four years of the program, while going 19-3 with a program record eight saves in her two seasons of play.

Buc fans will be able to follow the Waterbury, Connecticut native closely for the final two years of her playing career as she will remain in Fort Myers where she will play for Florida Gulf Coast University for the next two years.

Stay tuned tomorrow for our #9 moment of the 2018-19 FSW Athletics year, provided to you by the Bucs Baseball team.
