Koehler Earns First Defensive Player of the Week Nod

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- While she has collected plenty of Offensive Player of the Week awards during her Florida SouthWestern State career, there was one thing Bucs sophomore Barbara Koehler hadn't won yet, until Tuesday that was, as Koehler was named the FCSAA Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her storied Buccaneer career.

Koehler was big on the back end for the Bucs last week in a pair of key Suncoast Conference victories over #6 Miami Dade and Polk State.  She averaged 3.8 digs per set, first pulling up 18 against the Sharks in a thrilling five set win Tuesday, before backing that up with a dozen in a three set win over Polk on Thursday as the Bucs clinched their third straight Suncoast Conference Championship.

Koehler averaged 2.55 digs per set during the 2022 regular season making her the only FCSAA player to average 2.50 or more digs and 3.50 or more kills per set on the year.

Koehler was joined in the award winners' circle this week by teammate Roberta Purashaj who earned her third FCSAA Setter of the Week award this week.

Koehler and the Bucs head into the FCSAA State Tournament in Melbourne this week as the top seed and will take on the winner of the Hillsborough/Eastern Florida first round match in the semifinals at 6 PM on Friday.
