Bucs Volleyball Brings Home Second Straight USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky.- For the second straight year, the Florida SouthWestern State Volleyball team has been named a recipient of the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award as announced by the AVCA on Monday.

The award, in its 28th year of existence this season, honors volleyball teams across all levels, from high school, to Division I, who achieved a 3.30 or better cumulative team GPA during the 2020-2021 school year.

"Even though teams might not have played during their usual season or may not have competed at all during the past year, coaches still found ways to lead their players to academic excellence." said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "This is a testament to the important role volleyball coaches play in their players success both on and off the court."

The Bucs chalked up a 3.50 team GPA this season, joining an exclusive list of just 22 NJCAA Volleyball programs to be named to the list. They were one of just three from the FCSAA, joining Daytona State and St. Johns River to win the award.

Along with their success in the classroom in 2020-2021, the Bucs also put together quite the resume on the court.  They finished 20-9 overall while winning their first Suncoast Conference Championship in program history at a perfect 8-0 and qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament where they finished 8th in the country.

FSW will kick off it's 2021 campaign on August 27th and 28th at home in the 'Battle For the Beach' Tournament at Suncoast Credit Union Arena where they will take on four of the top teams in the country on the opening weekend of the season.
