Murray Signs With Shockers

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Florida SouthWestern All-American Jayla Murray is headed to the Division I level after signing with Wichita State University for the 2023-2024 season.

Murray had a monster freshman year for the Bucs, earning Southern Conference Player of the Year and Third Team NJCAA All-American honors in the process. She led the Bucs in both scoring and rebounding, putting up 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, while starting all 27 contests as a rookie. She scored in double figures 21 times and went over the 20 point mark six times in 2021-2022.  She had seven double-doubles on the year including back to back efforts which earned her FCSAA Player of the Week accolades when she went for a career high 26 points and 10 rebounds against Hillsborough and backed that up with 23 points and a career high 15 rebounds in a blowout win over Indian River.

Her second season in Fort Myers was cut short with an early season injury that ended her campaign, but after eight contests, she was putting up 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 47% from the field.

Murray will join new Wichita State Head Coach Terry Nooner in the Sunflower State. The Shockers were 18-15 a year ago, going 6-10 in American Conference play.

Murray is the fourth Division I signee and one of seven Bucs to sign at the next level off of this year's team, joining Macarena Retamales (Florida Gulf Coast), Natalia Tondi (Virginia Commonwealth), Blessing King (Morehead State), Shaniya Rose (USC-Beaufort), Violette Skipworth (Ottawa), and Aaliyah Williams (Barry).
