Murray/Retamales Named FCSAA All-State
NICEVILLE, Fla.- For just the second time in program history, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers had two players named to the FCSAA All-State Team on Thursday as Jayla Murray and Macarena Retamales were named two of the top players in the Nation's top Region prior to tipoff of the Bucs State Tournament matchup with Chipola.

Murray was the Southern Conference Player of the Year this season as a freshman, leading the Bucs averaging 14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Murray scored in double figures on 20 occasions this season, topping the 20 point mark six times including a pair of 26 point performances, both against Hillsborough. She notched seven double-doubles with her best game coming against Indian River in a 23 point, 15 rebound effort.

Retamales was the ultimate stat sheet stuffer for the Bucs, averaging 13.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for the Southern Conference Champs.  She started all 26 games during the regular season, scoring in double figures 19 times, topping the 15 point mark nine times including the final four leading up to the State Tournament.  Retamales shot at a high clip at all three levels, hitting on 48% from the field, 37% from the three point line, and 78% from the line.

It marks the first time since 2018 for FSW to have two selections, when LaToya Ashman and Tina Stephens were teammates on the All-State squad.

Murray, Retamales and the Bucs are back in action tonight when they take on #14 Chipola in the first round of the FCSAA State Tournament in Niceville.
