LAKE WORTH, Fla.- Taking the court for the first time in three weeks, the #23 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers raced out to an early lead and never looked back Friday night on the road in Lake Worth as they battered the Patrick & Henry Patriots 90-45 in their final tune-up before Southern Conference play begins on Saturday.
The Bucs came out on fire right off the tip, lighting up the Patriots for 28 first quarter points to take a 28-8 lead after 10 minutes of play.
It was more of the same in the second as FSW used a 13-0 run early on to push their lead to 30 before settling for a 49-25 lead at the break.
FSW shot 51% from the field in the first half, led by Tyshonne Tollie who had a game high 10 on a perfect 5-5 shooting.
The Bucs continued to click on the offense end as the second half began, but they ratcheted up the pressure on the defensive end, allowing Patrick & Henry to score just 10 third quarter points to take a 73-35 lead after three.
With nothing left to figure out but the final score, the Bucs put it in cruise control in the fourth, breezing to the finish line for a 90-45 win.
Five Bucs scored in double figures and five players finished with 7 or more rebounds for FSW who saw all 12 dressed players play 12 or more minutes. Tyshonne Tollie and Aaliyah Williams put on a show on the inside for the Bucs, combining for 29 points on a perfect 13 of 13 shooting while Jayla Murray had 12 points and a team high 8 boards and Tashun Bryson came off the bench for 10 points and 7 rebounds.
FSW improves to 11-3 on the year with the win while Patrick & Henry falls to 4-8.
The Bucs are back in action on Saturday when they kick off defense of their 2021 Southern Conference Championship when they take on conference newcomer Hillsborough at 2:00 in Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
