Conference Play Heats Up For Former Bucs

FORT MYERS, Fla.- With conference play heating up around the country, we check in on our former Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers now playing at the next level in our second segment of 'Where Are They Now'. 

2018-2019 BUCS

Tina Stephens- University of Kansas

After missing three games with an injury, Stephens has come back with a bang, putting up 14 points in the Jayhawks win over Texas Tech on Saturday and following that up with 11 points and 7 rebounds against Texas Thursday.  She ranks third on the team, averaging 10.5 points per game on the year while leading KU in rebounding at 6.9 per night. 

 

Tonysha Curry- Stetson University

Curry has found her groove with the Hatters, starting each of Stetson's last four games, averaging 31 minutes per game during the stretch.  She scored a season high 13 Saturday against Jacksonville and pulled down a season high 10 rebounds earlier this month against FGCU.  Bucs fans will get a chance to see Curry play in Fort Myers on February 10th when the Hatters visit FGCU in Alico Arena. 

 

Niaya White- Young Harris College

White has led the Lions to a breakout season as they sit 11-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play after going 6-22 and 4-18 in league play last year before her arrival. She has scored in double figures in all but three games this season, lighting up the scoreboard for a career high 26 points Monday against Flagler.  In the Lions last outing on Wednesday against Georgia Southwestern, she registered her first double-double with the Lions, scoring 11 and putting down 10 boards in a big conference win. 

 

Taylor Williams- Christian Brothers University

The former Bucs sharpshooter has continued her ways with Christian Brothers, scoring in double figures eight times this season and knocking down 22 threes on the year.  She is averaging 11.8 points per game which ranks second on the team and has also dished out a team best 5.2 assists per contest this season. 

 

2017-2018 BUCS

LaToya Ashman- Louisiana State University

Ashman has seen action in seven games this season, helping the Tigers to an 11-4 record thus far.  LSU is coming off their biggest win of the year on Sunday when they knocked off #11 Kentucky 65-59 in the Maravich Center. 

 

Kiarra Meeks- Jacksonville University

Meeks has been a key player for the Dolphins in the second half of the season, drawing a start in nine straight games, including all five of JU's ASUN Conference contests.  She scored a season high 16 points and dished out 7 assists in a win over NJIT and  played all 40 minutes and pulled down a season high 8 rebounds the Dolphins last time out against North Florida. 

 

Amanda Oliver- St. Bonaventure University

Oliver has started 8 of the last 11 games for the Bonnies, averaging just over 20 minutes per game during the stretch.  She has earned her time with her work on the glass, pulling down a season high 13 rebounds against Buffalo and backing that up with 9 two weeks later against St. Mary's. 

 

Erna Normil- Florida Gulf Coast University

Normil and the Eagles just keep on winning, riding an eight game win streak into their game Saturday against NJIT.   She has played in 12 games this season for FGCU, most recently in a win over Kennesaw State. 

 

Taylore Gotcher- Kentucky State University

Gotcher has worked her way into a steady role for KSU of late, logging double digit minutes in four straight games.  She has pulled down four or more rebounds in all four of those games and has combined to score 10 points in the Thorobreds. 

 

Mykelli Taylor- LaGrange College

Taylor and FSW teammate Sadie Desroches have been etched into the Panthers starting lineup as she has drawn a starting nod in all 16 games for LaGrange this season.  The senior has scored in double figures three times this season including a 17 point outburst against Pensacola Christian earlier this year. 

 

Sadie Desroches- LaGrange College

Desroches has been in the starting lineup of each of LaGrange's last 15 games, making a big impact for the 10-6 Panthers.  She scored a season high 16 Saturday against Johnson University and pulled down a season best 9 rebounds in Wednesday's win over Huntingdon. 

 

Marissa Cottrell- Johnson & Wales University

Cottrell has logged major minutes for the Wildcats since the break, averaging 36 minutes per game since the calendar flipped to 2020.  She is fourth on the team, averaging 6.9 points per game and has topped the 10 point mark five times on the year .

 

Elizabeth Spencer- Central Methodist University

Spencer and the Eagles are ranked 8th in the latest NAIA National rankings with a 17-2 record.  She has seen action in 15 games, putting her two best scoring contests together back to back earlier this year when she scored 15 in a pair of games against Midland and Missouri Valley. 

 

The 2019-2020 Bucs are 18-5 overall and 4-0 in Suncoast Conference play with seven games to go.  The Bucs are back in action on Saturday when they host Hillsborough in a conference contest beginning at noon.
