State High Seven Bucs Earn FCSAA All-State Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- A state high seven Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were honored by the FCSAA  with All-State selections on Wednesday as Baylee Haggard was named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Year, Feline Poot, Laura Vigna, Shenita Tucker, and Taylor Jensen were named 1st Team All-State picks and Charlotte Drijvers and McKenzie Wittenberg were 2nd Team All-State choices. 

Leading the Bucs seven selections was Baylee Haggard who was named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Year.  Haggard finished the regular season 22-1, leading the state with her 22 wins while ranking 2nd with a 1.20 ERA. She spun 10 complete games and allowed just 21 earned runs in 122 innings pitched. 

Earning 1st Team All-State honors for the second straight season were sophomores Feline Poot and Taylor Jensen. Poot ranked in the Top 10 in the state in all three triple crown categories, hitting .449 with 10 home runs and 59 RBIs while also scoring 50 runs on the year.  Jensen hit .385 with 7 doubles and 5 homers while driving in over a run a game with 37 RBIs in 34 games this season while also sparkling behind the plate, throwing out six would-be base stealers.

The Bucs had a pair of 1st Team All-State outfielders as both Laura Vigna and Shenita Tucker earned the nod.  Vigna was the top hitter in the state this season, fishing the regular season with an even .500 average while accounting for 103 runs. She led the state with 62 runs scored and drove in another 41.  Tucker was the top base stealer in the state this season with 54 bags in 56 attempts.  She hit .457 which was second best to Vigna and reached base at a .511 clip while finishing 4th in the state with 55 runs scored.

FSW also had two players named 2nd Team All-State selections as freshman McKenzie Wittenberg joined sophomore Charlotte Drijvers on the squad.  Wittenberg ranked 7th in the state in hitting this season with a .444 average, ripping 9 doubles and a pair of home runs while driving in 37 in 45 games for the Bucs. Drijvers was right in front of her at 6th in the FCSAA in hitting this season with a .449 average.  She smacked 12 doubles and drove in 36 while striking out just 5 times in 40 ballgames.

The Bucs had seven All-State selections for the second straight season and also for the second straight season that number led the state.

FSW finished the regular season last week at 45-4 overall and head into the 2022 postseason ranked #1 in the NJCAA National Polls. 

The Bucs will begin their postseason march on Friday at 7 PM in Longwood, Florida when they square off with the 14th ranked Chipola Indians in a matchup of the NJCAA's last two National Champions in the first round of the Region VIII Tournament.
