Bucs Ace Picks Up National Pitcher of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After posting a 3-0 record and throwing 18 innings without allowing an earned run last week, Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Baylee Haggard has been named the NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week.

Haggard was locked in in the circle for the Bucs last week, spinning a pair of complete game shutouts and throwing 18 innings overall without allowing a single earned run in three victories.  Tuesday against Polk State she wielded a complete game shutout, scattering six hits and striking out six in a 10-0 FSW win over the Eagles.  Thursday she backed that up allowing just one hit in four innings of work to earn the win against St. Petersburg. She wrapped up the week with her second shutout, again going the distance, this time against Hillsborough, while allowing just five hits and striking out four Hawks along the way.

Haggard leads the Nation with 21 wins in 22 starts this season and ranks third among pitchers with more than 100 innings pitched with a 1.07 ERA.

Haggard is the first FSW pitcher to earn National Pitcher of the Week honors since Sarah Lawton in April of 2019.

Bucs fans will have one more chance to see Haggard and the rest of the FSW Softball team at home on Saturday when the Bucs host Polk State at 1 PM on Sophomore Day in their final home games of 2022.
