Vigna Named FCSAA Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.- Leading the charge for the red hot Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers last week, FSW Freshman Laura Vigna has been named the FCSAA Player of the Week as announced by the state office Tuesday.

Vigna hit a scorching .750 last week, going 12-16 at the dish while scoring 10 runs in six FSW games.  She had three extra base hits and drove in eight runs while going a perfect 7-7 in stolen base attempts.  Wednesday against Eastern Florida she went 4-5 in the doubleheader, recording two hits in each game and scoring three times in the sweep.  Saturday she had an RBI double in the Bucs first game of the day against St. Johns River and followed that up with a three hit game against Santa Fe and also swiped four bases against the Saints. Sunday she came up big when the Bucs needed her most as she was a perfect 4-4 with a double, a triple, and six RBIs to lead FSW over arch rival and 16th ranked Chipola.

Vigna has put up video game like numbers so far this season, hitting a state best .612 while reaching base at an eye popping .655 clip.  She has scored 25 runs in 18 games for the Bucs and is a perfect 11 for 11 in stolen base attempts on the  year.

Vigna and the Bucs are back home at City of Palms Park tonight where they will take on the South Florida State Panthers in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 5 PM.
