FORT MYERS, Fla.- Coming off the high of a big win over the Ranger Rangers Thursday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were in no mood for a let up Friday as they took on the Florida Coastal Spartans, blowing past the prepsters 110-63 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
It was all FSW from the opening tip as the Bucs took a 9-3 lead three minutes in and never looked back. A three from Eugene Alvin made it 15-4 Bucs five minutes into things and a triple from Breno Silva upped their lead to 29-17 midway through the first. Back to back layins from Jahmari Johnson and K'Jei Parker extended the lead to 35-19 with under 8:00 to go in the half and a late bucket from Chol Machot blew it open to a 57-30 game in favor of the Bucs after 20 minutes of action. Machot registered a double-double in just 10 minutes of action in the first half, putting up 12 points and 10 rebounds on 5 of 8 shooting in the period.
It was more of the same as the second half got underway as Jeremy Innocent grabbed an offensive rebound and stuck it back in to make it 64-38 Bucs before a triple from Ahmed Soumahoro moments later extended the lead to 76-44 with 13:23 remaining. The Bucs hit the century mark for the first time this season on a Machot free throw with 2:16 to go before piling on 10 more points in the final two minutes to run away with a 110-63 win.
The Bucs dominated the glass in the win, outrebounding Florida Coastal Prep 73-26 including 27 offensive rebounds. Machot finished a dominant day with 23 points and a program single game record tying 18 rebounds while Jafeth Martinez dialed up a double-double of his own with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bucs improve to 4-0 on the year with the win, their first 4-0 start since the 2019-2020 season in which they finished 29-2.
The Bucs will have the week off before returning to the court on November 29th and 30th in Miami when they take on Central Georgia Tech and Southern Union State in the Miami Dade Classic to close out the month.
