Former FSW baseball pitcher Kyle Arjona has signed a free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and will pursue his professional career. Arjona spent the 2018 season playing for the University of New Orleans from the Southland Conference.
Intersport today announced that four men’s college basketball teams from America’s top conferences will descend upon Fort Myers, Fla., Nov. 19-21, 2018, to compete in the inaugural Fort Myers Tip-Off at Suncoast Credit Union Arena live on FS1.
George Sanders, who was hired at Florida SouthWestern in July 2015 and has been serving as the interim athletic director since August 2017, has been named the college’s permanent athletic director, FSW President Jeffery Allbritten announced. Sanders began his new role on July 1.
Several Florida SouthWestern State College student-athletes have earned academic honors for their success in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year, highlighted by 13 student-athletes earning NJCAA Academic honors and Riley Russell and Sam Freitas earning Suncoast Conference Academic Student-Athletes of the Year.
After a national search, FSW Director of Athletics George Sanders has announced that Thais Baziquetto-Allen has been selected to lead the Florida SouthWestern volleyball program, which is set to start competition in the fall of 2019. Baziquetto-Allen comes to FSW after spending the last three seasons as the head coach at Seward County CC in Liberal, Kan.
Florida SouthWestern women’s basketball head coach Kristie Ward has announced the addition of Rabun Wright to her coaching staff as an assistant coach. Wright joins the Buccaneers after spending two seasons as an assistant at NCAA Division II Shorter University.
FSW softball utility player Alyssa Allender has signed her National Letter of Intent to play for head coach Sara Allen and Columbia International University. Allender will have two years of eligibility remaining.
More postseason accolades continue to come in for the FSW softball team, as Riley Russell and Giovanna Watts were named NJCAA Division I All-Americans. Russell was named to the Second Team while Watts earned Third Team honors.
FSW Director of Athletics George Sanders announced that after a national search and more than 350 applicants, Ben Bizier has been selected as the Buccaneers’ new head baseball coach. Bizier, who replaces Jamie Corr, comes to Florida SouthWestern after spending nine seasons (5 as head coach, 4 as an assistant) with in-state foe Broward College.

The White Sox announced the full squad on Tuesday (June 5) and former FSW softball standouts and New Zealand natives Courtney Gettins (Univ. of Alabama), Mikayla Werahiko (Univ. of Maryland) and Mereana Makea have been named to the team.
More postseason accolades continue to come in for the FSW softball team, as four student-athletes picked up National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NJCAA Division I All-American honors. Sophomore Riley Russel was named to the First Team, sophomore Mikenzie Vaughn earned Second Team honors and sophomores Mereana Makea and Christian Quinn were named to the Third Team.
